Infos

From the beginning, it was clear that Infant Finches never had one constant sound. The moment you press play, you join them for an adventure that pushes and pulls the listener through eclectic guitar riffs, polyrhythmic percussions, and cryptic lyrics that nestle just beneath the instruments' surface. Just when you feel like their world is about to collapse, a lucid melody grounds you back to their aesthetics. The different sounds catch you off-guard, suddenly you find yourself floating away inside the pockets of small processed details that are drifting through their tracks.

"We wanted the listener to be unsure of what they are listening to, a live band or a song being build up by heavily processed material. On the first listen, it's a familiar aesthetic, but we wanted to draw inspirations from different times and blend them together which happened quite naturally”

Their debut album, Sci-Fi Immune, is a collage of sounds that's changing all the time. Details from post-production entwine each song, taking their sound to new depths of emotions. The two members, Jan Philipp and Frederik Bruun, wrote many of the tracks over the past couple of years - whether it was secluded at Frederik's grandparents' seaside house in Denmark or in the countryside with the acclaimed producer Olaf Opal (The Notwist, International Music Düsseldorf Düsterboys). Since they learned music production by recording themselves, teaming up with Opal had a significant impact on bringing the ideas to life. The album introduces the listeners to a new corner of their world filled with unorthodox compositions and a back and forth push between the duo's tastes, aesthetics, and preferences. The outcome is a weird yet beautiful mixture of sounds that glistens in details inspired by This Heat, Dirty Projectors, Animal Collective, and even moments of shoegaze similar to My Bloody Valentine.

"I feel that there is a story for all the songs. They are not intended to have a meaning, but each track brings me a certain picture from my life or thoughts. The lyrics are mainly written in the moment, sometimes taken out of pure randomness, but in the end, we choose which words to write down and that gives them a very special meaning to me.” The duo comprises Jan Philipp and Frederik Bruun, and they already have a discography of two EPs titled Yellow Tape (2019) and Orange Tape (2020). Sci-Fi Immune releases [spring 2022] via Papercup Records, alongside three singles and music videos. Their first full length was recorded and produced Olaf Opal and supported Initiative Musik
